Overview of the Israeli-Palestinian Conflict

In 1948, the state of Israel was established in a region once known as Palestine. Jewish settlers came pouring in, and much of Palestine's territory was taken. The Palestinians saw the settlers as a threat. They did not want to give up their land that they had lived in for generations and felt that their settlement threatened their hopes to become an independent state after British occupation ended. This started a complicated conflict that has resulted in bombings, murders, protests, police brutality, and several other tragedies that still occur today. The United States has largely played a part in supporting Israel, while the Palestinians constantly protest and riot against the occupation and control of parts of Israel.
